    Spectroscopic study of light scattering in linear alkylbenzene for liquid scintillator neutrino detectors

    We has set up a light scattering spectrometer to study the depolarization of light scattering in linear alkylbenzene. From the scattering spectra it can be unambiguously shown that the depolarized part of light scattering belongs to Rayleigh scattering. The additional depolarized Rayleigh scattering can make the effective transparency of linear alkylbenzene much better than it was expected. Therefore sufficient scintillation photons can transmit through the large liquid scintillator detector of JUNO. Our study is crucial to achieving the unprecedented energy resolution 3\%/E(MeV)\sqrt{E\mathrm{(MeV)}} for JUNO experiment to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy. The spectroscopic method can also be used to judge the attribution of the depolarization of other organic solvents used in neutrino experiments.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

    Deep Learning for Video Object Segmentation:A Review

    As one of the fundamental problems in the field of video understanding, video object segmentation aims at segmenting objects of interest throughout the given video sequence. Recently, with the advancements of deep learning techniques, deep neural networks have shown outstanding performance improvements in many computer vision applications, with video object segmentation being one of the most advocated and intensively investigated. In this paper, we present a systematic review of the deep learning-based video segmentation literature, highlighting the pros and cons of each category of approaches. Concretely, we start by introducing the definition, background concepts and basic ideas of algorithms in this field. Subsequently, we summarise the datasets for training and testing a video object segmentation algorithm, as well as common challenges and evaluation metrics. Next, previous works are grouped and reviewed based on how they extract and use spatial and temporal features, where their architectures, contributions and the differences among each other are elaborated. At last, the quantitative and qualitative results of several representative methods on a dataset with many remaining challenges are provided and analysed, followed by further discussions on future research directions. This article is expected to serve as a tutorial and source of reference for learners intended to quickly grasp the current progress in this research area and practitioners interested in applying the video object segmentation methods to their problems.     Leukocyte nucleus segmentation and nucleus lobe counting

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Leukocytes play an important role in the human immune system. The family of leukocytes is comprised of lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils, and neutrophils. Any infection or acute stress may increase or decrease the number of leukocytes. An increased percentage of neutrophils may be caused by an acute infection, while an increased percentage of lymphocytes can be caused by a chronic bacterial infection. It is important to realize an abnormal variation in the leukocytes. The five types of leukocytes can be distinguished by their cytoplasmic granules, staining properties of the granules, size of cell, the proportion of the nuclear to the cytoplasmic material, and the type of nucleolar lobes. The number of lobes increased when leukemia, chronic nephritis, liver disease, cancer, sepsis, and vitamin B12 or folate deficiency occurred. Clinical neutrophil hypersegmentation has been widely used as an indicator of B12 or folate deficiency.Biomedical technologists can currently recognize abnormal leukocytes using human eyes. However, the quality and efficiency of diagnosis may be compromised due to the limitations of the biomedical technologists' eyesight, strength, and medical knowledge. Therefore, the development of an automatic leukocyte recognition system is feasible and necessary. It is essential to extract the leukocyte region from a blood smear image in order to develop an automatic leukocyte recognition system. The number of lobes increased when leukemia, chronic nephritis, liver disease, cancer, sepsis, and vitamin B12 or folate deficiency occurred. Clinical neutrophil hypersegmentation has been widely used as an indicator of B12 or folate deficiency.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The purpose of this paper is to contribute an automatic leukocyte nuclei image segmentation method for such recognition technology. The other goal of this paper is to develop the method of counting the number of lobes in a cell nucleus. The experimental results demonstrated impressive segmentation accuracy.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Insensitive to the variance of images, the LNS (Leukocyte Nuclei Segmentation) method functioned well to isolate the leukocyte nuclei from a blood smear image with much better UR (Under Segmentation Rate), ER (Overall Error Rate), and RDE (Relative Distance Error). The presented LC (Lobe Counting) method is capable of splitting leukocyte nuclei into lobes. The experimental results illuminated that both methods can give expressive performances. In addition, three advanced image processing techniques were proposed as weighted Sobel operator, GDW (Gradient Direction Weight), and GBPD (Genetic-based Parameter Detector).</p

    Research on the Law of Garlic Price Based on Big Data

    In view of the frequent fluctuation of garlic price under the market economy and the current situation of garlic price, the fluctuation of garlic price in the circulation link of garlic industry chain is analyzed, and the application mode of multidisciplinary in the agricultural industry is discussed. On the basis of the big data platform of garlic industry chain, this paper constructs a Garch model to analyze the fluctuation law of garlic price in the circulation link and provides the garlic industry service from the angle of price fluctuation combined with the economic analysis. The research shows that the average price rate of the price of garlic shows “agglomeration” and cyclical phenomenon, which has the characteristics of fragility, left and a non-normal distribution and the fitting value of the GARCH model is very close to the true value. Finally, it looks into the industrial service form from the perspective of garlic price fluctuation

    Trimethylamine N-oxide and its precursors in relation to blood pressure: A mendelian randomization study

    ObjectivePrevious studies have demonstrated that trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) and its precursors, including choline, betaine, and carnitine, are closely associated with blood pressure (BP) changes. Nevertheless, with the limitation of reverse causality and confounder in observational studies, such a relationship remains unclear. We aimed to assess the causal relationship of TMAO and its precursors with BP by the Mendelian Randomization (MR) approach.MethodIn this study, two-sample MR was used to reveal the causal effect of TMAO and its precursors on BP. Pooled data of TMAO and its precursors was from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) which includes summary data of human metabolome in 2,076 European participants from Framingham Heart Study. Summary-level data for BP was extracted from the International Consortium of Blood Pressure-Genome Wide Association Studies. Inverse variance weighted (IVW), MR Egger regression, Maximum likelihood, Weighted median, and MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier test (MR-PRESSO) were used in this MR analysis.ResultsA total of 160 independent SNP loci were associated with TMAO and three precursors, including 58 associated with TMAO, 29 associated with choline, 44 associated with betaine, and 29 associated with carnitine, were selected. MR results suggested that a 1 unit increase in TMAO should be associated with a 1SD increase in systolic BP mmHg (beta: 0.039, SE, 0.072, p = 0.020). Additionally, our findings also indicated that a 1 unit increase in carnitine should be associated with a 1SD increase in systolic BP mmHg (beta: 0.055, SE: 0.075, p = 0.039). This result was also confirmed by sensitivity analysis methods such as Maximum likelihood, MR-PRESSO, and Weighted median. No effects of betaine or choline on systolic or diastolic BP were observed in the present study.ConclusionOur study provides evidence of a causal relationship of TMAO and its precursors with BP, suggesting that mediating the generation of TMAO would be beneficial for lowering BP
